The EOS 5D offers photographers a
compact, robust digital SLR that's
lightweight enough to carry on the
most gruelling of shoots.
The camera's 12.8 Megapixel CMOS
sensor measures 35.8 x 23.9mm –
known as 'full frame' for the
dimensions it shares with traditional
35mm film. With no lens conversion
factor, photographers can realise the
full potential of Canon’s EF lenses -
capturing more light, achieving wider
angles of view and gaining tighter
control over depth of field. The sensor
is only one element of the EOS 5D's
appeal. Its 9-point AF system includes
6 Assist AF points for highly accurate
focus tracking. A 3.5% spot metering
circle gives photographers flexible
control over exposure, while
customisable Picture Styles provide
quick access to image processing
parameters. Two automatic noise
reduction settings maximise the
effectiveness of the camera's on-chip
noise reduction, for uncompromising
performance from ISO 50 right
through to ISO 3200 (equivalent).
Photojournalism Photography
I was at a demonstration in the Gaza Strip and
decided to look beyond the main focus point.
I like shadows, so I thought I’d stand against
the sun. For photojournalism, one of the most
important things about the EOS 5D is its size.
It's compact and light. It’s easy to hold and
move around. That makes the photographic
experience more comfortable for me and for the
people I'm shooting. And although it's much
smaller than the EOS-1D Mark II, it's just as easy
to operate. Another thing I love about the EOS 5D
is its sensitivity to light - it really holds the
atmosphere. It means I can catch history at
night while keeping a low profile.
