Dual-stage Driver and Right Front Passenger Airbag
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
• Able to deploy in the full-powered mode or with less
pressure in the Stage1 mode
• Multipoint crash-sensing system includes the Restraint Control
Module which is linked to sensors on the front radiator
support for frontal crashes and on the B- and C-pillars for
side impacts
• The sensors help to determine crash severity early in a
collision so that the correct airbag inflation pressure can be
determined
• Driver’s-seat position sensor monitors how close the driver’s
seat is in relation to the steering wheel — another factor in
determining the airbag inflation pressure
Front Passenger Sensing System (FPSS)
• The front passenger seat includes the Front Passenger
Sensing System (FPSS) to control airbag deployment
• The passenger-seat weight sensor turns the passenger
airbag off if a small-statured person is in the seat or if
it is empty
“Safety Cell” Construction
• Helps absorb impact energy before it reaches
vehicle occupants
• Front-end structure with reinforced subframe to
absorb energy
• Cross-vehicle beam has an additional mounting point
for steering column and airbag
• Includes high-strength steel side door intrusion beams
Safety Belts
• Use latest technology to provide occupant protection
• Manual 3-point system at all 5 seating positions
• Front-seat safety belt pretensioners automatically tighten to
more effectively restrain front outboard occupants in certain
frontal collisions
• Front-seat energy management retractors gradually let the
safety belts loosen if necessary — reducing the force of the
belts on the occupant’s chest and letting them move forward
very slightly and into the airbags
• Front shoulder belt D-ring height adjuster for comfort
Safety Package
• Includes the Safety Canopy
TM
System which provides
enhanced side-impact head protection and rollover
protection for first- and second-row outboard occupants by
deploying from the headliner in certain types of accidents
• A sensor monitors the vehicle’s roll angle and roll rate. If the
system determines that a rollover may be imminent, the
Safety Canopy deploys and can remain inflated for several
seconds, much longer than regular airbags
• The Safety Canopy can also be triggered in certain
side impacts
• Also includes dual front side airbags that are mounted to
the front seats and “move” with the occupant to provide
better protection than side airbags that deploy from the
door. These airbags provide added protection to the
head and chest of front outboard occupants during certain
side-impact collisions
• Provides 6 total airbags in the vehicle (including the airbags
provided in the standard Personal Safety System)
