Escape Mustang
Safety/Security Specifics
(1) 2006 model year ratings. NHTSA does not retest a vehicle for the new model year unless it has significant changes or additions in safety features or body
structure. Because Escape hasn’t changed significantly in these areas for 2007, the previous crash test results are expected to carry over to the new model.
Remote Keyless Entry System
• User can choose to lock or unlock driver’s door only or
all doors
• Transmitter has a panic button; when pressed from up to
33 feet from vehicle, horn sounds and headlamps flash
SecuriLock
®
Passive Anti-theft System
• System is designed to help prevent the engine from
being started unless a coded key programmed to the
vehicle is used
• Uses specially coded key with 72 quadrillion possible codes
to start vehicle
• System arms automatically when key is removed from ignition
• System disarms when the correctly coded key is reinserted
into the ignition
Belt-Minder
®
System
• Reminds driver and front passenger to buckle up because the
safety belt is the most important safety feature in the vehicle
• If driver or front passenger is unbuckled and the vehicle has
reached a speed over 3 mph, the system sounds a chime
and flashes a warning light on the instrument cluster
Theater Lighting
• Provides added convenience and security
• Brightly illuminates interior whenever door is opened
• When all doors are closed, the lights gradually dim
A CLOSER LOOK: Front Crash Structure
Many in the industry doubted Escape’s ability to achieve a
high safety rating due to just 18 inches of crash space in
the vehicle’s design. The crash space is located between
the front of the instrument panel and the back of the front
bumper. Escape’s front crash structure (specifically the front
aprons) absorbs crash energy and helps pull it away from
the front of the vehicle and away from the cabin. This
design enhances the ability of the crash space to absorb
crash energy.
Five-star Frontal and Side-impact Crash Test Ratings
• Escape earned a five-star frontal and a five-star
side-impact crash test rating for the driver and
right front passenger
(1)
• Five stars is the highest rating in federal government
crash tests
• A five-star rating indicates a 10 percent or less chance
of serious injury in a frontal or side impact
• NHTSA does not retest a vehicle for the new model year
unless it has significant changes or additions in safety
features or body structure. Because Escape hasn’t
changed significantly in these areas for 2007, the
previous crash test results are expected to carry over to
the new model
