VFI INDUCTION SYSTEM INSTALLATION
VFI induction kits use different intake runners for different
applications. There are two variables that determine which
intake runners are used: cylinder length, and type of cylinder
head. First, When cylinder lengths change with engine size,
the manifold lengths must also change for correct fit.
Second, S&S and other intake ports differ, and manifolds will
not interchange between them. For each installation, S&S
induction systems must use the correct length and style of
intake runners. To confirm that the manifolds in the kit are
correct for your application. See Picture 1, and Chart 1.
NOTE: Installation of S&S VFI Induction Systems is easier
with gas tanks removed. Some owners may elect to perform
installation without removing gas tanks, or performing a
partial removal. This is left to individual discretion. S&S
recommends referring to appropriate Harley-Davidson
®
service manual for correct removal procedure as necessary.
Gasoline is extremely flammable and explosive
under certain conditions. Do not smoke around
gasoline. Gasoline fumes are toxic when inhaled.
Perform installation in a well ventilated area away
from open flames or sparks. Any gasoline leak or
spill constitutes a health and fire hazard.
If motorcycle has been running, wait until engine
and exhaust have cooled to avoid getting burned
during installation.
Electrical sparks can ignite explosive gasoline
fumes. Failure to disconnect battery while working
on motorcycle can also result in inadvertent
engagement of starter and personal injury.
A. Remove Existing EFI Induction Module Assembly
NOTES:
Removing and tightening hard to reach hexagon socket
(Allen) head cap screws, such as Evolution
®
or Twin
Cam 88
®
manifold flange to head, is greatly simplified
with the use of Allen ball-end drivers, and are available
at most automotive and tool supply houses.
Some screw heads on stock sensors require TORX bits
for removal and installation.
VFI Tuned Induction support bracket to head breathing
fittings can be easily accessed with the use of S&S
rocker cover wrenches. See Picture 2 .
1. Relieve fuel system pressure prior to
disconnecting the fuel supply line at fuel tank.
Unplug electrical connector to fuel pump and start
engine. After it stalls crank engine for 3 seconds.
Disconnect battery. Refer to appropriate Harley-
Davidson
®
service manual.

S&S
®
VFI Tuned Induction Systems or Teardrop Induction Systems are designed for fuel injected Harley-Davidson
®
big twin
engines. This system replaces the stock EFI induction module assembly, while utilizing many of the original fuel system
components, sensors and wiring harness. S&S VFI Induction Systems must be used with an S&S Delphi
®
VFI Module.
The VFI module is included in master kits, or is available separately. The part number for Delphi
®
applications is 55-5034.
Integrated into the throttle body is a sophisticated idle air control system which ensures excellent starting and idling. The
original throttle cables are used, and a cruise control kit is available which uses the original cruise control cable. Manifolds are
available to allow fitment on engines of various heights with either stock (1.625" diameter) ports or S&S (1.78" diameter) ports.
When used in conjunction with the S&S VFI Module and an appropriate calibration map, the S&S VFI Induction Systems
will maximize the power of virtually any fuel injected big twin engine, while providing excellent driveability and fuel
economy.
IMPORTANT NOTE - Recommended for Racing Only.
S&S VFI Induction Systems are not legal for use in California on motor vehicles operated on public highways or in other
states where similar pollution laws apply. The user shall determine the suitability of the product for his or her use and shall
assume all risk and liability in connection therewith.
WARNING
