FRAX-101
Making accurate measurements in a wide frequency
range with high dynamics puts high demands on the test
equipment, test leads and the set-up. FRAX-101 is
designed with these requirement in mind. It is rugged, able
to filter induced interference and noise and has the highest
dynamic range in the industry.
The FRAX test leads offers C-clamp bushing connectors
(see picture on page 4) providing secure connection and
grounding using the shortest braid procedure described in
international standards. The software offers an unmatched
flexibility that simplifies and accelerates the test. The
sweep can be set to optimize best resolution and detail. An
optimized sweep can be made in less than one minute.
FRAX-101 uses wireless Bluetooth communication and
battery operation for full flexibility. Shorter test leads can be
used without communication and power supply cables. The
Field Test Box, FTB-101, recommended in several FRA
guides, allows the user to do a quick check of the
instrument and test cables before a test.
Frequently used test commands have been assigned
function keys and the Windows software supports touch
screen operation.
The software offers powerful tools for analysis and
decision support when the test data is captured. It is easy
to compare measurements between tests. The test data is
stored in open XML format allowing for third party modeling
software analysis.
Optional accessories
The built-in Battery Pack offers flexibility when
performing tests on or off the transformer.
When measuring grounded connections such as to the
transformer tank or a bushing connected to the transformer
tank, the Active Impedance Probe AIP-101 should be
used. AIP-101 ensures safe, accurate and easy
measurements to ground.
The Active Voltage Probe AVP-101 is designed for
measurements when higher input impedance is needed.
AVP-101 is used for measurements where up to 1 MΩ
input impedance is required.
You can read more about the active probes on Pax
Diagnostics website www.paxdiagnostics.com or contact
your local Pax Diagnostics distributor for more information.
Using FRAX-101
Dynamic Range
The instrument’s dynamic limit (red) and a normal
transformer measurement (blue) demonstrates the
instruments ability to measure transformer characteristics
accurately. A minimum margin of at least 20 dB should be
maintained to obtain +/- 1 dB accuracy.

Above: The laptop can be operated by touch screen and the
communication is wireless via Bluetooth. Measurement ground braids
connect close to the connection clamps and run next to the bushing to the
flange connection to avoid cable loops that otherwise affect the
measurement.
