Picture Style.
The EOS-1D Mark II N and EOS 5D are
fully customisable to a photographer’s
personal style of shooting. Six Picture
Style parameters simulate the
characteristics of different film styles,
including Standard, for punchy,
print-ready colour; Portrait, for softer,
natural skin tones; and Landscape,
for sharp images with vivid blues and
greens. Neutral and Faithful settings
reproduce colours naturally with no
sharpness applied - ideal for images
that are to undergo post-processing.
A Monochrome setting allows
photographers to emulate colour
filters with black and white film.
All settings can be adjusted for colour
tone, saturation, sharpness and
contrast, and up to three custom
Picture Style parameters can be saved
for later use. With more than 48,000
possible setting combinations available,
Picture Style offers photographers
unprecedented image control direct
from the camera.
Rugged Build Quality
Canon EOS professional digital SLRs
meet the needs of field photographers
working in demanding shooting
environments. All cameras have rigid,
magnesium alloy bodies that are
engineered to withstand extremes in
temperature. For reliable performance
in inclement conditions, the EOS-1
series cameras are also dust-proof
and weather-resistant. The shutters
are designed to endure 200,000
cycles (100,000 for the EOS 5D).
Strengthened accessory shoes
provide further durability, while
electromagnetic shielding helps to
reduce noise.
Nature Photography
My fascination with wildlife photography began
in the early 1990s while on safari with a EOS-1
camera. Canon’s technological developments
since then have enabled a major shooting
project like this one. After months of meticulous
planning, I set out with a team of divers to get
this image for my new book. It was high risk -
not only is it rare to find an elephant that will
swim in the ocean, but to get the shot I wanted
I had to get very close to its legs. Luckily my EOS
eliminated a lot of the risk by taking away the
timely adjustments. The fast burst rate allowed
me to take a large number of pictures in a short
space of time. The consistently accurate colour
balancing meant that I didn’t have to adjust for
the intense blue of the water - one less thing to
worry about while avoiding the elephant’s legs!
