Key Features
Duratec 23 - 2.3L I-4 Engine
• Delivers 153 horsepower and 152 lb.-ft. of torque
• Mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission on XLS and XLT
• Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission on XLS Manual
Duratec 30 - 3.0L DOHC V-6 Engine
• Provides more power than most overhead valve engines
of comparable size
• DOHC technology
• 200 horsepower @ 6000 rpm
Four-valve Technology
• Both engines use two intake and two exhaust valves
per cylinder
• This design improves the flow of the air/fuel mixture into the
engine and the flow of exhaust gas out of the engine,
resulting in increased horsepower and torque compared to
overhead valve engines of similar size
“Green” Vehicle Features
• Both the Duratec 23 - 2.3L I-4 and the Duratec 30 - 3.0L
V-6 engines meet California LEV II or federal Tier 2 Bin 5
emissions standards. Manual transmission on 2.3L meets
California ULEV II standards
• Both engines use an electrical vapor management system
that reduces evaporation of fuel into the air
• Both engines have a catalytic converter that needs less
precious metal and helps reduce emissions

• Both available Escape engines use Dual Overhead Camshafts and 4-valve technology
for smooth, powerful operation
• This design improves the flow of air/fuel mixture into and exhaust gas out of the engine,
resulting in increased horsepower and torque compared to overhead valve engines of
similar size
• Both the Duratec 23 - 2.3L I-4 and the Duratec 30 - 3.0L V-6 engines meet LEV II
