Application Notes
3
– small, particularly unobtrusive stereo
arrangement
– a swivel at the upper end allows angles
from 0° to 120° to be set
– also suitable for use as part of a “Straus-
Paket“ in which the signals from a cardioid
and an omnidirectional microphone are
blended together, to obtain a “wide cardioid”
pattern, for example
Standard cable length: 2 m
Extension: KS 5 I: 5 m or KS 10 I: 10m
Tube lengths: 350 mm, 700 mm, 1200 mm
The RG 8 swivel joint and a rubber ring (see
figure to the right) are included.
Recommended floor stands:
for 350 mm tube length: T 5g,
for 700 mm or greater lengths: BF 250
Matching windscreen: WMS
Screwing on the Capsules
Place the MK capsule for the M channel against
the lower contact plate at the front end of the
tube. Now turn the capsule first counter-clock-
wise (not pressing the parts together) until
you feel a gentle ”click”. You are then at the
beginning of the thread, and can attach the
capsule with normal clockwise rotation.
When screwing the MK 8 onto the upper
capsule head of the tube, it is not possible to
know the exact position of the limit stop and,
with it, the orientation of the MK 8’s 0° axis.
An elastic ring slows down the last turn in
order to prevent the MK 8 from changing its
position once aligned. Since this O-ring will
wear out with use, three replacement rings
are supplied from the outset.
Mounting advice:First push the O-ring over
the upper capsule thread onto the microphone
tube, making sure it goes past the end of the
thread. Gently screw the MK 8 on until it
reaches the limit stop (which the elastic ring
defines) and then turn it back again (max. one
turn) until the “8” is in horizontal position and
the 0° axis points in the right direction (to the
left when viewed from behind the capsule).
Care and Maintenance
Please be careful to avoid placing microphone
tubes in a dusty environment. Keep them in a
closed box when not in use, since any dust
that gets inside the sensitive contact area of
the tube end (this is where the capsules are
screwed on) can adversely affect their func-
tioning. In combination with humidity it can
lead to condensation and thus popping and
crackling noises (often described as ”frying
sounds”). The contact areas are best protected
with the supplied cap.
The mini-jack on the end of the cable is me-
chanically sturdy when screwed in. When un-
plugged, it is very sensitive, and should therefore
be handled with great care. Keep it protected
with the supplied rubber cap.
