1 Important information

E38 approx. 1.5 hours
The installation time may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it.
Target group
The target group for these installation instructions is personnel which have been trained on BMW cars.
Work
All servicing, repair, installation and adjustment work on cars is conducted on your own responsibility.
All work is to be completed using the latest BMW
– Repair instructions,
– Circuit diagrams,
– Service manuals,
– Work instructions,
– Diagnostics manuals
in rationeller Reihenfolge mit den vorgeschriebenen Werkzeugen (Sonderwerkzeugen) und unter Berücksichtigung
in a rational sequence using the prescribed tools (special tools) and pursuant to the relevant health and safety
regulations.
Safety notes
Before the installation, please read the following:
All work is shown for a left-hand drive model.
The illustrations show the installation of the speech input system for cars with the BITmobile phone.
For cars with a telephone/mobile phone from Phase V, proceed accordingly.
All wiring harness are to be laid such that they cannot suffer kinking, chafing or crushing.
The speech input system can only be installed in cars with
a multi-functional steering wheel after 9.96 and
a high speed on-board computer.
In addition only the following mobile phones, telephone/mobile phone systems are compatible with the
speech input system:
- Standard mobile phone with BIT(SA 624), standard telephone from Phase V (SA 629) or standard mobile
phone from Phase V (SA 625)
- Installation kit for mobile phone (BIT, retrofitting SA 624 identical to standard)
- Installation kit for telephone (from Phase V, SA 625)
- Installation kit for mobile phone (from Phase V, retrofitting SA 624 identical to standard)
For cars between 9.96 and 9.98 the key for air circulation or steering wheel heating on the multi-functional
steering wheel must be replaced.
The key must be ordered and installed separately as set out in the ETK.
If it has not already been installed, the telephone control key must also be ordered and installed separately.
The holders for the speech input module are to be ordered separately for the E38 and E39 models to match
the car's equipment.
