ActiveDirectoryprovidesamechanismthatenablesadministratorstomanagecomputers,groups,endusers,

domains,securitypolicies,andanytypeofuser-denedobjects.ThemechanismsthatActiveDirectoryuses

toaccomplishthisareknownasGroupPolicyandAdministrativeTemplateles(ADM).WithGroupPolicy

andADMles,ITadministratorsdenesettingsthatcanbeappliedtocomputersorusersinthedomain.

LenovoprovidesPowerManagerADMlesforWindowsXP ,WindowsVista,andWindows7client

computers,withfourcategoriesofpolicysettings:Generalsetting,PowerPlan(Scheme)Deployments,

GlobalPowerSetting,andPowerAgendaDeployments.

AddingAdministrativeTemplates

Designedtosaveyoutimeandeffort,LenovoprovidestheAdministrativeTemplateles,"DPWMGPO.ADM"

forWindowsXPoperatingsystems,and"DPMVGPO.ADM"forWindowsVistaandWindows7operating

systems,whichcanbeusedwithGroupPolicytosetthecongurationpoliciesforPowerManager.These

ADMlescanbedownloadedfromtheLenovoSupportWebsiteat:

ToaddthePowerManagerAdministrativeTemplate(ADMle)totheGroupPolicyEditor,dothefollowing:

1.OnthecomputerrunningActiveDirectory,clickStart➙Run,andtypegpedit.msc.TheGroupPolicy

Editorwindowopens.

2.UnderComputerConguration,right-clickAdministrativeTemplates.

3.ClickAdd/RemoveTemplates,andtheAdd/RemoveTemplateswindowopens.

4.ClickAdd,andthenselecttheDPWMGPO.ADMle.

5.ClickAdd,andthenselecttheDPMVGPO.ADMle.

6.ClickCloseontheAdd/RemoveT emplatesdialogbox.

7.CheckthattheADMleshavebeenaddedtotheGroupPolicyEditorbydoingthefollowing:

•ForWindowsXPoperatingsystems

a.UnderComputerConguration,expandAdministrativeTemplates.AnewitemnamedLenovo

ThinkVantageComponentsispresent.

b.ExpandLenovoThinkVantageComponents,asub-itemnamedPowerManagerispresent.

•ForWindowsVistaandWindows7operatingsystems

a.UnderComputerConguration,expendClassicAdministrativeTemplatesandnavigateto

AdministrativeTemplates.AnewitemnamedLenovoThinkVantageComponentsispresent.

b.ExpandLenovoThinkVantageComponents,asub-itemnamedDesktopPowerManager

forVistaandWindows7ispresent.

Notes:

1.ThepolicysettingsinthePowerManagercongurationitemareforWindowsXPclientcomputers,and

thesepolicysettingsdonotaffectWindowsVistaandWindows7clientcomputers.
