ForMicrosoftoperatingsystems,press<F11>andchangetheBootManagertoUEFI.Oncethisisdone,simply
bootfromtheWindowsServer2008orVistaDVDandfollowthenormalinstallationsteps.Fromthisperspective,
everythingwillbethesameasBIOS‐modeinstallation.

primaryvisiblechangesaretotheharddrivesetupalthoughthisisnotvisibletothecustomerduring
installation.BIOS‐modesetupinstallsMBRandhasasinglebootpartition.UEFIusesGPT.ForaMicrosoft

ESPandtheWindowsoperatingsystempartitions.
• Thesepartitionsarevisible
withtheDiskpartutility–DONOTchangeorremovethesepartitions.
IMPORTANT:YoucannotswitchbetweenBIOS‐modeandUEFI‐modewithoutfullywipingthedrive,eitherby
usingtheDiskpartCleancommandorthroughtheharddiskcontrollerandreinitializingtheharddrive.Onceyou
transitiontoUEFI,
DellrecommendsthatyouleavethesysteminUEFI‐mode.
