microwave-radio systems will
benefit from this course, which
covers core competencies and
supporting technologies. Each
module includes student exer-
cises and applicable testing appli-
cations designed to strengthen
job skills.
Modules include an overview
of radio service as a transmission
media, how transmitters and
receivers work, modulation
schemes used in cellular and PCS
services, and an overview of
wave propagation and radio-
antenna systems.
Grounding and
Protection of
Communications Sites
(One-Day Course)
Eight (8) BICSI Continuing
Educations Credits
This course has been specially
designed for the communications
professional whose job responsi-
bilities include working with
AC and DC power systems. These
session topics are tailored specifi-
cally to the distinct requirements
of the communications industry.
The sessions cover grounding
basics, the grounding electrode
system site grounding, grounding
for equipment and enclosures,
DC systems and signal-carrying
cables, as well as an introduction
to surge protection devices.

Motorola Canopy™
Advanced Technical
Training Course
(Two-Day Course)
Hosted by TESSCO Technologies,
Motorola Canopy advanced
technical training is a compre-
hensive, instructor-led training
that addresses detailed technical
product hardware and software
issues. It is recommended, but
not required, that all attendees
have a basic understanding of
both Internet protocol (IP) and
radio frequency (RF) technolo-
gies. Topics will include a
Motorola Canopy system
overview, designing a Canopy
network, Canopy cables, connec-
tions and software, IP and
Canopy, RF theory, Canopy sys-
tem specifics, Canopy and simple
network management protocol
(SNMP), and supporting and
maintaining canopy products.
New! Certified RF
Fundamentals and Power
Measurement Training
(Two-Day Course)
In this course sponsored by Bird
Technologies, engineers and
technicians will learn the proper
methods of calibration and meas-
urement procedures using test
equipment designed for Cellular,
PCS and 3G, wireless LANs, GPS
navigation systems, and DBS TV.
Test equipment will be explained
and demonstrated, including vec-
tor network analyzers, spectrum
analyzers, frequency and time
domain reflectometers, digitally
modulated signal generators and
vector signal analyzers.
The course is offered as a two
or four-day class. The first two
dates will cover the basics of RF
power measurement, with the
second two dates being the con-
tinuation of the class covering
more advanced concepts of RF
transmission system measure-
ments. Prerequisites include a
background in RF concepts with
one year of practical experience.
A hand-held scientific calculator
is required during the course.
T1/DS1
Testing Concepts
(Two-Day Course)
The majority of wireless compa-
nies use DS1/T1 transport sys-
tems to connect their sites. Many
times the wireless technicians are
at the mercy of the provider
when one of these connections is
down. This course will focus on
how to set up, operate and inter-
pret results on standard DS1/T1
test equipment, efficiently install
and test new DS1/T1 transport
systems, troubleshoot existing
DS1/T1 systems and equipment,
perform channel testing on exist-
ing systems and much more. You
are not required to bring your
own test equipment; however,
students are allowed to bring
their own instruments and learn
on the actual equipment they
will be using in the field.
Selling Wireless
Data Services
(One-Day Course)
This is a perfect course for new
salespeople or management staff.
Many wireless sales representatives
have a difficult time up-selling their
customers into additional wireless
data services beyond voice. This
course helps create an understand-
ing of and a value proposition for
additional wireless services like text
messaging and BREW applications,
among others.
It provides in-depth and easy-
to-understand information on
how to sell basic and advanced
wireless services. An overview of
all key technologies and applica-
tions ranges from basic cellular
voice services to advanced wire-
less data services. Several key
applications are demonstrated
and students get hands-on
experience with applications
such as BREW, e-mail, ringtones
and text messaging.
Fundamentals of
Wireless Local Area
Networks (Wi-Fi)
(Two-Day Course)
Wireless local area networks
(WLANs) have become extremely
popular in the last few years and
the 802.11 technologies continue
to explode. With wireless net-
works being set up in homes and
businesses all over the world it is
important for both wireless and
wireline personnel to be comfort-
able with installation and trou-
bleshooting of the variety of
WLAN technologies and products.
Whether you’re setting up
HotSpots for your local coffee
shop, configuring a home or
small office WLAN, or helping
an airport provide Wi-Fi connec-
tivity to travelers, the skills
obtained during this course will
make these implementations
seamless and trouble-free. A large
portion of the course is hands-on
and the attendee will be working
with the more common hard-
ware and software used today in
WLAN implementations.
