The petrol or diesel engine of your
vehicle is tted with a catalytic
converter, a device which helps to
reduce the level of harmful emis-
sions in the exhaust gases.
WARNING : The catalytic con-
verter is a delicate component.
On petrol vehicles, it is essential
to use unleaded fuel.
Poor engine running can cause premature failure of the catalytic converter.
Precautions to be taken :
Keep to the recommended service intervals, as dened in the Mainte-
nance Guide.
If difcult cold starting is experienced, contact a CITROËN dealer or
authorised repairer as soon as possible.
If engine misring is experienced, reduce speed and contact a CITROËN
dealer or authorised repairer as soon as possible.
Rell with fuel as soon as the minimum fuel warning lamp comes on. A
fuel level that is too low could cause poor running.
Never tow or push the vehicle to start it.
Do not run the engine with one or more spark plugs disconnected, not
even for test purposes.
Allow the engine to return to idle before switching off the ignition.
Do not park or drive over highly inammable material (dry grass, fuels,
etc). as the catalytic converter will be very hot.
WARNING: EXHAUST GASES
Exhaust gases are very hot, keep people away from the exhaust tail-
pipe.
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, a highly toxic gas which is colour-
less and odourless and therefore virtually undetectable. Breathing in carbon
monoxide can cause loss of consciousness and possible death.
For this reason, it is highly dangerous to run the engine in a conned space
or in a poorly ventilated area.

Using leaded petrol could destroy the catalytic converter and
cause serious damage to other components.
