Among other things, TFSI technology is employed
in the Audi A7 Sportback. Its unique feature is
that it combines the advantages of FSI with a
supercharger, which ensures even better power
delivery.
The 3.0 TFSI quattro generates a hefty 228 kW
of power. An innovative mechanically-driven
turbocharging system with intercooler is
employed here and turns the 6-cylinder engine
into a compact powerhouse – with moderate
fuel consumption. It is not just the peak torque
of 440 Nm that is impressive, there is also the
torque curve: with at least 90 % of the
maximum
torque being available across an
engine speed range of 2,900 to 4,500 rpm.
Thanks to its very spontaneous responsiveness
and exceptional power delivery across the
entire engine speed range, the 6-cylinder
engine promotes a particularly dynamic driving
style. The Audi A7 Sportback accelerates
to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds – and still has
plenty of power reserves left after that.
The Audi S7 Sportback has a V8 4.0 TFSI
engine that features the new innovative
Audi cylinder on demand. This ensures that
during partial load operation, only four of the
eight cylinders are used – without you noticing
the difference. The engine runs just as
smoothly and powerfully, but using less fuel
and emitting less CO₂. Thanks to its very
spontaneous responsiveness and exceptional
power delivery across the entire engine speed
range, the 8-cylinder engine promotes a sporty
superior driving style. Its 309 kW accelerate
the S7 Sportback at a torque of 550 Nm from
0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. The top speed
is electronically regulated at 250km/h.
The 2.8 FSI (150 kW) with Audi valvelift system
(AVS) completes the engine options for the
Audi A7 Sportback. The variable valve control
system of the AVS helps to reduce fuel con-
sumption. In conjunction with the 7-speed
S tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro
permanent all-wheel drive, the 2.8 FSI acceler-
ates from 0 to 100km/h in just 8.3 seconds.
All FSI and TFSI engines in the Audi A7 Sportback
and S7 Sportback comply with the EU5 emission
standard.
The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found from page 108 onwards.
In just a few seconds you will understand why.
Audi cylinder on demand in the TFSI
engine. If the V8 4.0 TFSI engine of
the Audi S7 Sportback does not need
the full power of 8 cylinders in the
partial-load operational range, Audi
cylinder on demand closes the intake
and outlet valves of 4 cylinders – 2 each
per cylinder bank – and their ignition
and fuel injection is switched off. This
means that neither is air taken in or
fuel injected nor is exhaust gas emitted.
The system will only kick in under
certain conditions: when revs are
between 960 and 3,500 rpm, the
speed is at least 25km/h and you are
travelling in at least third gear of the
7-gear S tronic.
